What would you differently if you could start your blog all over again?

- register a domain name?
- hire a designer?
- not blog about my family?

What would you do differently?

Jennifer, I'm pretty sure you can now add google friend connect to WP blogs- at least the self hosted ones.  The hassle I've seen among people is having friend connect on blogger and then trying to move it to your new WP place, that doesn't seem to work so well.
I love my blog :-) the only thing is I would not have neglected it so much, I was writing quite often then stopped for  almost a year, but I'm back & won't leave again!!
I would have definitely set it up on Wordpress.org from the start, instead of Wordpress.com. I'll make the switch some day soon, but I dread possible downtime. I hate templates I can't manipulate!!

I would join these communities right away. I did not know how much you can get connected just by joing mom bloggers club.

Love this thread. My blog has evolved quite a bit over the last 6 years, but I've kept the same one. Sometimes I think about how different things might be if I had started a new blog at some point -- when I graduated college, when I got married, when I had a baby -- but the evolution of all of those things are captured in one place. I've even moved once -- from good ole Xanga to TypePad.

So -- I suppose -- I wouldn't change anything. Things like blogging evolve - we should be cool with that.

It would probably register a domain to it. I've already put so much into backlinking that I would hate to lose them. But, I have seen some blogs that are not registered that seem to be doing well.

I have learned so much in my year of blogging, but I still have sooo much to learn.  That being said I love the path I'm on, even with all the changes I make to my blog.   I have yet to register a domain name or pay for a custom design.  I haven't done my homework, but will soon.  I am also on blogger and would love to move to wordpress.  This is all in the works :)

Probably change my url, get domain and design. I don't want to change my url now because I have quite a few links floating around in cyber space.

My Meddling Mind

Well, I'm at that point right now! I was on a suuuuper long bloggy break (well, actually, I QUIT!), and after much debate, I just couldn't stop blogging. I missed it so much! I agree with a lot of what everyone has been saying here over the years about more frequent posting, getting way more focused, really getting my niche down, etc. I'm trying to get back into it and want to make sure I do it right this time. I didn't balance my REAL life with my bloggy life well enough - I neglected my family because I was too busy trying to write and post and comment and read a thousand blogs. I won't do that this time around.

As far as blog domains are concerned, I still am on Blogger (I actually really enjoy them and being able to tweak the design myself vs. free WP), I bought my domain at one point in time - but let it lapse, and now, I'm trying to figure out if I want to keep that blog alive. I'm not worried about readers (since I lost them all) and I'm not worried about my links in the ether since they don't really amount to much anyway. But I've started a new blog and am torn between the old one and this new one. *sigh* Like I said, I need to focus. :-) What a great question, with fantastic, insightful answers from everyone!
