I'm such a nut about blogging platforms and the flexibility they give. Back in 2003 i set up my first blog with Blogspot (now Blogger) and that was fine. But as I got more into web stuff I found I needed more flexibility. I've tried many blogging platforms, but I have to say I love love love Wordpress. I have Host Gator as my web host and for the blogs I manage I install Wordpress on my web server and I couldn't be happier.

What is your preferred blogging platform? Are you satisfied with it?

I started blogging one year ago this month and have always used blogger. I've been very happy with it and have had not glitches. I am worried what's going to happen when I've reached my limit of downloading pictures on posts, though.
I started with wordpress.com and then moved to wordpress on my own server.

I really like it ... it's easy enough for a novice like me to navigate my way around. I wish I had time to learn how all the ins and outs of customizing it because I know with wordpress, the sky's the limit.

I'm on blogger and love it! I've never tried any other service, but I haven't had a need to. I've been perfectly happy with blogger.
I use Wordpress hosted on my own domain and I would not use anything else.
I am on blogger and so far, I am liking it! I previously had my blog on MySpace and that I really didn't like at all!
At that point you may want to consider getting your own domain name and web hosting account to run a blogging platform off of. I actually recommend this from the start so you can full and total control over your blog, but many folks are afraid to do so. Are you getting close to reaching your limit?

Isn't it the best? I just love Wordpress.

We're really new at blogging and use Wordpress on our own domain. There's still so much to learn. I want to change the theme but am having difficulty with that. Everything that gets on their is a huge accomplishment for us.
When you host Wordpress on your own server; you're always dealing with your web host control panel in addition to the Wordpress admin panel. When you find a Wordpress theme you want to use, you have to do the following:

1) download the zip file for the theme
2) log in to your web host control panel
3) go to your file manager and find the contents folder for your domain
4) upload the wordpress theme zip file
5) extract all items in that zip file (you're still in your web host control panel doing all this)
6) log into your Wordpress admin panel
7) click on design and you should see your new theme
8) click on the image of the new theme to activate it

Who is your web host?

Thanks so much for the advice. We'll give it a try. Right now we're still using one of the 2 themes they offer to start with. We're using Start Logic as our web host and so far it's been fine.

I'm currently a newbie working on Blogger. I have seen plenty of nice Blogger blogs and so I hope I can figure it out enough to stay on that platform. If not, I may move to Word Press, which seems more full featured, but my main goal is to work on writing and getting readers. I think I can do that on Blogger, hopefully!

There are a bunch of technical things I want to try, such as having an index list of all the books, toys and media I've written about, but writing right now is my big #1 priority.
I'm still on Blogger. It works for what I do, and it's easy to tweak my layouts.
