I'm such a nut about blogging platforms and the flexibility they give. Back in 2003 i set up my first blog with Blogspot (now Blogger) and that was fine. But as I got more into web stuff I found I needed more flexibility. I've tried many blogging platforms, but I have to say I love love love Wordpress. I have Host Gator as my web host and for the blogs I manage I install Wordpress on my web server and I couldn't be happier.

What is your preferred blogging platform? Are you satisfied with it?

You can certainly build readership no matter what blogging platform you use and welcome to the world of blogging. I would just suggest you get your own domain (if you don't already have one); that way if you ever leave Blogger for another service you don't have to inform your readers. When you build up a www.yourblogname.blogspot.com and then you move to another service; you have to give your readers a new url an hope they all follow. If you start out using your own domain, www.yourblog.com, you don't have to worry about that because the any future changes are all done on the backend and your own domain will of course remain the same.

I'm currently a newbie working on Blogger. I have seen plenty of nice Blogger blogs and so I hope I can figure it out enough to stay on that platform. If not, I may move to Word Press, which seems more full featured, but my main goal is to work on writing and getting readers. I think I can do that on Blogger, hopefully!

There are a bunch of technical things I want to try, such as having an index list of all the books, toys and media I've written about, but writing right now is my big #1 priority.
Good advice. I use blogger but I think I may purchase my domain name.
Absolutely. That's always the first thing I do. I purchases all my domains through Go Daddy and change the DNS records to point to my web server. Blogger has an easy way to use a custom domain, so you should have no trouble setting that up.
