Ditto....I am also completely overwhelmed by this new world. I hope people add their two cents 'cause I want to learn too.

Well, first thing to do it post...lots...often. Get your good content inthere so when people come by, they like what they see.

Then, read other blogs....lots...often. Comment on them....lots...often. That's how you network, and meet other bloggers, and they meet you.

I wouldn't use the word advertising, but you can promote/network your blog on sites like twitter, stumbleupon, and great communities just like this.

As far as guest blogging goes, you are asked by other bloggers to do that.

Advertisements, there are lots of ways to do this. You can sign up for ads from anywhere, but most just pay pennies, and lots are based on traffic. So focus on getting your traffic up, and with time, the big ones will come to you.

Blogging can be surprisingly daunting. So,my advice would be, take a deep breath, prepare to get lost in the blogging world for hours at a time, read tons of blogs, really work on getting posts up, and then with time, everything else kinda falls into place.

Then again, this all depends on what your blogging expectations are. Which could be a whole other post....but, if you are blogging as a form of expression, then write your heart out,and who cares how many people read it. If you are blogging to be famous...that takes lots of time and work, and unfortunately, there is no easy way to get there, though I would guess the thing to start with is build your traffic and readership, and in my opinion, the only sure fire way to do that long term is to have stellar original content, so when people check you out, they want to come back because they are reading something unique. Plus, I have found that commenting on other blogs and really connecting with other blogs is the best way to bring traffic back to your blog in return. It's kinda like a community.

Brittany had some great advice - listen to her, she knows her stuff.

I would also recommend - Entrecard for getting some traffic, networking with other bloggers and some free exposure for your blog.

to offer ad space to sponsors in a really easy way, check out project wonderful (just google, it will come up) You can leave the price low and it functions like an auction. If people want your space, they bid and the price goes up. It's a good way to test the waters with little commitment.
