A Christian book on adoption but I can't reach my target audience
I have written a book about the adoption of my two daughters from other countries and compare their adoption to the adoption by our heavenly Father. It's a wonderful book with 40 reviews on Amazon.com with five stars. But I don't know how to tell people about it that would want to read it. I have tried many marketing ideas and spent lots of money with only limited success.
So the truth is, I am not pushing my book here, but it is a book that I want woman in particular to know about in case it's something they want to read. It is not a "how to" book on adoption. It is an inspirational book showing how I overcame so much -- a husband that left me for another woman after putting him through medical school and then he got her pregnant when I couldn't conceive -- overcoming a difficult childhood, negative self-image, lack of friends, going back to school, et cetera, and ultimately, commiting my life to Jesus Christ and starting over. Today I am blessed with two beautiful daughters that I adopted from overseas. And I am still single. Prince Charming never came along. But you can find contentment and fulfillment as a single woman.

First, I'd say to get 40 reviews on Amazon is amazing. There are well-known authors who don't have that many reviews so kudos for that accomplishment.
Secondly, marketing is an arduous process. Please check out my eBook Marketing and Publicity for the author that helps you to find your target audience, engage them, and to get publicity for your book. All of these are crucial to creating a fan base and getting book sales. Please let me know if you have any further questions and much success to you!

One way to market is to reach out to other adoptive or potentials parents, they would very likely be interested. You would have to find groups and forums with that theme, and become active in their forums and blogs. Add value and then you can tell them about your book.

Bernice, that was my initial thought, and I did that. But I was surprised by my response. I mostly heard, "You are just promoting your book," and most were not interested--even when I tried to share the medical issue that Manisha had so they could take preventative measures to avoid it. We were just featured on Animal Planet's "Monsters Inside Me." "Prospective adoptive parents' comments were, "Oh, you are just trying to scare us," and these were families in the process of adopting from Nepal -- a target audience that really needed to hear what I had to share. I have made presentations to adoptive groups and birthmothers and was well received. Once people meet me, they see me very differently. I contacted adoption groups, like Adoptive Families, and never heard back from them. So, yes, I agree, that would be my target audience, but they aren't interested. Fortunately, the book is much more than an adoption story. Most of the people that have read it (and loved it) have not adopted. It's just a wonderful story that will leave you inspired that God is bigger and more than we could ever have imagined.
