Apparently crazy from the heat, Apple Texas, a franchise partner of Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar with 67 restaurants in the state, is making a bold move in the casual dining segment: offering its best-selling 10 oz. Margarita for a buck for an entire month. The aptly-named DollaRita is…

OUR DAILY PINS

Since, having my son last year, I have referred to myself no less than a thousand times as a WAHM (work at home mom, on the off-chance someone reading is not familiar with this acronym.) I am a mom, and do most of my work as a photographer and writer from home. What I am finding, however, is that my life as a WAHM means I spend my entire day in the Mommy role, caring for my 1-year-old. During moments of downtime, I struggle to do a little housework, and maybe make dinner. Finally, I wrap up the first part of my day with a shower, and only after everyone else is tucked snugly in bed can I sit down, open my laptop, and begin my workday.

Dear Crissy
I can so relate to what you mean. I have an almost 22 month old. He's been walking since he was 10 months old! I have 2 other school aged children. My toddler is giving me a run for my money. I feel it was actually easier for me when he was considered an infant. The reason being he took more naps during the day. Now that he's older he requires more of my attention which doesn't bother me at all. I make it a habit to get him out of the house at least twice a week. We go to the library, the play area at the mall and he loves going to the kid's corner at my gym. I also signed him up for a beginning movement class (similar to Gymboree) through our local parks and rec programs. Besides me playing with him and reading to him these activities help give him an outlet.

Having said all that I decided right before the summer started that in order to be an effective mother and business woman, something had to give. I made the decision to have him go to in home daycare once a week for half a day. I know the owner of the daycare well. She is very good at what she does. This little change has been a win-win for both of us. He gets more time to run around and play with kids his own age and I'm able to get some work done.

I know this is not for everyone. I initially bucked at the idea myself, but I realized for me I didn't want to miss out on anything he was doing. However, I realized I really just wanted to remain his primary caregiver. My part-time solution fits my values. You have to decide what works for you. You're a creative, savvy mom and I know you will find a solution that you can feel good about. Blessings to you!
I do only because they'e back to school!! :)
