Dilemma: Giveaway sponsor did not deliver and not answering emails

Although I've heard of this happening to other bloggers, I've never had it happen to me!

A reader won a giveaway back in August, and of course upon receiving her shipping information, I immediately forwarded it to the giveaway sponsor.  (I double checked -- it's in my sent box!)  Even though I noted that I would appreciate being kept in the loop regarding the giveaway prize shipping, etc. etc., I did not receive a response from the sponsor.  This didn't worry me though, because up until now, the giveaways have always been speedily dispatched to winners from their respective sponsors.

Now it's over a month later, and the reader has contacted me to let me know she still hasn't received the prize.  I followed up with the sponsor with an email, and DAYS later I still have not received a response.  I've also tried contacting via Twitter but no go there either (at least not yet.)

Arghh!  Going forward, I'm going to be EXTRA picky with the giveaways I host.

For those of you who have experienced the same thing, I'm curious to read how it panned out for you.

I just had a similar thing happen and am wondering the best way to deal with it is. My sponsor changed the rules on me after I had already notified several winners (3 of which responded, of course, from Canada). The company can't legally ship to Canada but the PR rep that set up the contest, who no longer works for the company, said US & Canada. The "company" basically just said, "sorry" and that's it.

I am going to have to email the Canadian winners, appologize and cross my figers they don't shoot the messenger. I guess it's better that there are shipping issues vs. them just ignorning me all together and least the US winners will get their prize.
