I just wrote a post like this too, though you took the high road, http://www.redheadranting.com/i-hate-blog-awards/ I don't have time for them and my traffic drops on the days I have them. I don't do them anymore, though if I receive one, and I shouldn't after the post I wrote, I do go to their blog and thank them.

I do feel honored when I get an award, but sometimes there are so many that it's hard to post about them and it's even harder to choose a few blogs to pass them on to when I have met so many great bloggers.

I do put a blog award widget on my blog though and add each award and the name and blog url of the person I received it from.

Then at odd times if I realize I haven't visit so and so in awhile then I just visit someone from the blog award widget.

I love blog awards but dont have many. I think its fun to participate.
