Hey there everyone-
I'm new to this site so first off, hello! I'm working on launching my blog in the next two months and am working through all the details right now.

I was curious if you guys use real names of your significant others and kids on your blog or not and why?

I'm debating on it. My blog's name is Adventuroo (about outdoor activities with kids and our travels) and so I was thinking my oldest son could be Big Roo and then my baby (due in March) will be Baby or Lil Roo. Hubby would be Daddy Roo. I still feel like I should use my own name just for credibility's sake so I wonder if having code names for the rest of the fam is a moot point! But part of me just wants to use their real names so I'm torn!

Anyway, what do you guys do and why?

Thanks!
Mel

I currently use my name and my husbands name and a nickname for my daughter. I still struggle this topic and go back and forth over beginning to use my daughters real name.

I originally started using a nickname for both her and my husband but decided that it would be fine to use my hubby's name but stuck with my daughters nickname. My concerns are safety above all else. I do post pictures and tell stories about my daughter and I worry about strangers knowing her name along with that information. I also felt funny about putting her name out there without her really being old enough to consent to it. I think it can work either way and most readers understand why authors choose to use nicknames or codes names for their family members.
I do not use our real names. I am not so worried about unknowns out in bloggy land stalking us or something. Rather, I am more worried about local weirdos and relatives that I know do searches for us online ( Think MySpace stalking lol ). My blog is my place to let my hair down and talk about whatever and also to vent. I wouldn't want to ruin that by having folks calling and whining whenever I said something that annoyed them. Have you thought about using their middle names or maybe a name that is a combo of their first and middle?

Take Care,

I had never thought about using a combination of first and middle names, that certainly is something to think about.
I use our real names. Normally I would not but my daughter is my business partner even though she's young. Also she had a "day" for the blog where she shares her viewpoints. I try to monitor the activity on the blog but the freaks are always going to be out there anyway.
I currently use nicknames for my girls but have been thinking of just using their real names. At first it was because no one knew I was blogging, not even my family. However, that has all changed and I'm wondering if I should just start using their real names. I don't post my last name, what town we live in, or their school's name, though.

-->Cute aliases if you go that route. I use real names because I talk about things after they happen and really, I didn't want to think that hard when mentioning all of the people in my life who make it to the blog. Plus, I don't share anything too personal.

I use my hubby's name and my name but nicknames for the children...I just don't want to give there name out...those who really do know me know my childrens names ;)
I try to be descreet about my family's names, being a military wife I don't post my husband's troop, last name or where his location is. I actually did a clean sweep of my blog to get rid of my children's names and put aliases mainly for my own peace of mind.
I do not use our real names on either my Mommy Blog or our personal family blog. I don't know that I would mind that much using my hubby's and my first names but not our last name and definitely not a real name for my son at all.
I use my real name but I would not use my husbands real name or my childrens or grandchildrens last names without permission.I figure if some one wants to know about me it wouldnt be that hard to find out anyway.
