Firstly, you need to have your own domain. Right now, you are using a sub-domain of Blogger. Any hits you get are counted as part of Blogger's "Compete ranking," not YOUR ranking.

getting your own domain is cheap ($10 for a year) and easy. Go to the dashboard in blogger. Click on "Settings" in the white box in the middle. At the top of the page that comes up, click on "Publishing." You want to set up your own "Custom Domain." You can find an open domain, and buy it through google for $10. They will automatically set it up so your blog will show up on this custom domain. Your old blogspot domain will still stay there, and anyone who goes to your blogspot domain will automatically be redirected to your custom domain.

Once you have this set up, register at compete.com. go into the "My Compete" area, and click on "My Tracked Sites." It will give you a code you need to put in the header of your site (this will be invisible to all of your readers). This code will allow Compete to track your site.

Thank you so much Carolina! I will be switching to my own domain as soon as I can get up the nerve. I am scared it is going to mess something up. ;-)

It worked seamlessly for me - I did it through Google because I was so afraid of buying the domain name elsewhere, and having it mess something up. : ) It is supposed to work either way, though. : )

I actually just tried today but the site kept saying it couldn't find the code I put on my blog. Am I a moron?! Why won't this work. I tried putting the code in my template HTML but that didn't work so I tried an HTML gadget (widget)--that didn't work. Do I need to put it in a post? Any help would be great.

Oh, I emailed support, but am waiting to hear back.

It has been a while since I did this... I followed the directions exactly, whatever they were. I know one of the places I listed my blog I did need to put the code at the beginning of my most recent post, and once they saw the code, I could delete it.

For others I had to put it in the header. For a couple, I could put it at the bottom of the page (If you go down to the bottom right hand corner of my blog, you'll see them)

You may also need to give it a little time, a couple listings took a few days to recognize my blog.
