I heard google friend connect is being cancelled at the beginning of March but then I also heard that it is only going away for blogs that are not hosted through blogspot and that those of us on blogspot will still have it and not be affected - does anyone know for sure if  that is right?

Yes, GFC is being retired only for non-Blogger sites.

You're right! Blogspot won't be affected BUT Google hasn't updated that application in years so I wouldn't be surprised if it goes away completely at some point (just my hunch).

I wrote a post about moving readers away from GFC (mainly for non-Blogger folks but some Blogger bloggers have decided to remove it anyway)! http://www.momcomm.com/2012/01/how-to-move-your-readers-away-from-g...
