I've seen many bloggers offering 'grab my button' with some lovely images. I'm really curious about:
1. Are these buttons offered for link exchange or unconditional? 2. Do we write the button's codes ourselves or generated from other sites? 3. Are people really grabbing those buttons from your site and you're getting traffic out of it?
I'm not a button expert, but here is my take:
1. The buttons are up for grabs. I kind of think about it like putting their "sticker" on my site. It is something pretty, decorative, and if you are a big fan of a blog, you might like putting their sticker on your site (like when you're a fan of a band, you might wear their t-shirt or put their bumper sticker on your car).
3. I only grab buttons for things I connect to - like if I'm featured on a site, or for charities I promote... not just blogs I read. Blogs I read get direct links in my posts when I write about projects of theirs I take on (I'm a craft blogger). I recently created my first button, to promote "pocket week" that I'm doing next week. I'll know mid-August if it worked. :)
