Hi everyone!
I would like to know how to start doing product reviews on my blog. Well, how do you contact a company to ask them if you could review a product? I see so many blogs that do giveaways and have even emailed some of them asking how they got started, but have not received any helpful information besides to search the net. Honestly, I don't know what companies to start out with. I would appreciate any advice or information you have to give.
Thanks!

Permalink Reply by Brandy Knight on November 11, 2011 at 5:18pm I just started giveaways and since I'm still new at blogging (only 128 followers), I have had some success with Tomoson.com. Mainly from them its smaller stuff like pens, hand sanitizer, and a coupon cutter; I figure its a start. I've also signed up with MyBlogSpark.com; their stuff is a little better, but I haven't heard anything since I've signed up but you may have better luck with them. Hope this helps some.
What is your niche? What products would your readers enjoy reading about? Start there.
Email the company with a specific pitch. Give them your traffic data and describe exactly what they will get in return for the product. Some companies do not yet understand the power of blogs and social media. Part of your pitch is to educate them.
Also make sure your blog has a page with your product review policies. Once I put that up on my blog I started seeing more offers.

Mine is super simple.

I have only done two paid reviews, but I'm negotiating some for the future right now. Just today I got my very first paid ad spot (Vista Print). I am thrilled!
Here is one from a blogger who is much farther along the path than I am:

More from other blogger friends:

Some people get very specific; others keep it general. But having a page on your blog makes it look much more professional and says that you're LOOKING to do reviews.
Permalink Reply by Margaret Damon on November 11, 2011 at 10:09pm how do you figure costs? Do you just come up with a reasonable number, or is there a going rate throughout the blogosphere?
these pages are great and thank you for the help!

Permalink Reply by Amy Ditmore on November 11, 2011 at 10:12pm Hey there, I have been doing reviews and giveaways for about 7 months or so. Matter of fact there is a HOT one going on for a Kindle Fire Tablet now. At first I started out doing reviews on things that I had around the house, mostly baby things that I loved. I think it works good because if you've used it, and you like it, it makes it easier to write a review on it. You can even email the company with a link to your review to let them know how much you love it (without asking for anything in return). Then I found companies like BzzAgent LOVE THIS SITE!!! I have been with them since April and my latest product I just received is the new Kindle Keyboard and I'm loving it. There is also a site called Tomoson that has a lot of different products for different levels of bloggers. Some have prerequisites like certain number of facebook followers, twitter followers, blog followers etc. Some don't require any, and some require certain numbers. If you have small kids you can try MomShare, MomSelect and place like that. You can visit my blog to see some of the things I've been able to review and keep. It's loads of fun, just always remember to place a disclosure to your readers and always be honest. Hope that helps some.

You're so welcome. Well, first I did free reviews. Then I got $50 for one. Then $75. Now I'm negotiating for $100. Big bloggers charge up to several hundred dollars!

Permalink Reply by Amy Ditmore on November 11, 2011 at 10:30pm You may want to check around on some of the larger blogs. I just joined in at Measuringflower.com. They get about 35 to 40 bloggers to pitch in a small amount each month for a very large giveaway. You don't get to receive a free product, but you get to have the rafflecopter on your site for people to enter the giveaway (traffic) as well as choose 2 place you want more followers. Ex. GFC, Twitter, Facebook whatever. So then as a mandatory entry to the giveaway you gain hundreds of followers to whichever avenue you want. That in turn lowers your alexa number, increases you GPR, gets you more followers which is also something companies look for. This is the first time I've joined. I felt like it would be worth it, and actually she is now in the process of gaining sponsors for the next giveaway. measuringflower.com
