How do you grow your subscribers and traffic to your blog?

I want to start doing giveaways on my blog, but I know I need to increase my subscribers and the number of visits to my site on a daily basis.  Can anyone give me advice on how to do this?  How do I promote my blog, gain subscribers and increase the number of visits per day?

Does anyone have any advice to share?  Will any of you start following my blog at www.yahres.wordpress.com

Thanks,
Jean

I use a lot of social networking such as twitter and facebook. Both have worked very well for me.
Put your subscription/following in a more prominent location :) I had a hard time finding it.

When I was smaller I gained traffic/followers by commenting and following other people. Now I gain more from SEO and advertising. I just started Twitter and Facebook, but right now the traffic is going to those places rather than from them (of course both are less than two weeks old).

My giveaways are relatively small though. I have three giveaways going right now (decent ones, a month worth of paper products, a Quilt book and patterns, and 100 free custom business/blog brochures) and despite having over 1500 subscribers and about 500 people a day I just do not get many entries into my giveaways. If you figure that out then I'd love the help!
