Is it just me or does it seem like blog giveaway requirements are getting a little crazy with the additional entries options? (Recently, I saw a giveaway post where there were 15 ways to get additional entries (?!)
Don't get me wrong...I understand the importance of getting RSS feed subscribers/newsletter recipients/ your posts on social media and links to your site (for Alexa/Technorati/Google Page rank/etc.) However, at a certain point (to me) it feels a bit too cluttered and contrived.
Anyway, I'm trying to come up with my own "official" blog giveaway policy before the end of the year. Initially, my blog was a local group, so giveaways were only open to members/newsletter subscribers. I'm torn between keeping it that way (open to newsletter subscribers only) versus opening them up to everyone. What do you think? What do you do?
I usually offer 2-4 additional entries. I do this for many reasons, including monetization. I've had great success with my giveaways--getting anywhere from a min. of 300 - 1800 so I feel my approach is working for me. I think everyone does what's best for them and their blog.
I don't set a "set" policy because my giveaways all work differently and many sponsors have requirements of their own that may not fit into what I would normally do. I just go with the flow. I did recently make new rules though and stated in that a post for everyone to read. I think creating a page with those rules and basic info is a good idea though!
I set up a giveaway with 5 ways to enter today, definitely the most I've ever used. Sometimes people put requirement hoops that I don't want to jump through, so I thought this would offer more options and people could skip the ones they didn't want to do.
I originally set up my giveaways for the entrant to just visit the sponsor's website and comment. Then I wanted to get my name out so offered bonus entries for adding my button. I also want to award the sponsor by getting their name out and give a bonus for that. But I never have a set track because I want people to read the post and the directions and not just be cookie cutter with answers. It defeats the purpose for the sponsor, IMO.
So one time they may be 3 bonus entries for blogging about the contest and the next time they'll get three for adding my button. It may be confusing, but it seems to be helping me get my own rhythm going.
But I want to be like Lori and have 300-1800 entries and get cool stuff like Kitchen Aid mixers. You rock, Lori.
