I know giveaways are a lot of work but I really enjoy doing them! I love the whole nine
yards to them. I also really like winning some giveaways of my own. I would say
leaving comments will bring in more traffic if you don't want to do giveaways. http://www.diabeticsnacker.com/

I wish I had an answer to this one. I worked my tail of last December. My traffic was very good -- for me -- in to January. I let my blog slide as I found more paid writing/work. Now I am faced with lower traffic, but less of a desire to start a gift guide this December due to the amount of work and the fact that giveaway traffic one month doesn't follow through to other months.

Carla -- I thought that you could get in trouble for submitting your own stuff to Stumbleupon. I have heard of bloggers who got banned for submitting too much of their own material. ANyone else?

*Submit your site to Blog directories
*Every time that you make a new post, submit it to social bookmarking sites such as digg, stumbleupon, mister-wong, and reddit
*Comment on forums and blog and include your site url
* Become active on facebook & twitter and promote your site

It's alot of work to get traffic but your hard work will eventually pay off :)

I am very new and really interested in these replies. I have actually started doing all these things myself and have seen a slow increase.

Personally I am getting overwhelmed by the blog hops! I would rather do a $10 giveaway than have to search for different blog hops every day and like the first 3 and the one before me and post comments and post links and post buttons - agh! I spent 2 hours doing it last night! I am new though so maybe it gets easier?

I would rather do a simple, straightforward giveaway than the blog hops but I think they are both worth some effort. I have been turned off by the giveaways where you have to perform 8,975 tasks for entries. I don't bother with those. I did 1 giveaway when I launched my site and it was no problem and brought me lots of followers and traffic. I can't wait to do my next one! But it's not for everyone.....

I do have a good bit of giveaways on my blog but the best way is to visit and comment on other blogs, also with blogfrog and other social networks , works wonders.

I have a new blog and I find the reviews get no comments. I think if you have a loyal readership it does not matter if you are doing reviews or giveaways, but if you don't have a readership giveaways help. Everyone likes to get something for free.

Have you tried just doing it the long way? Not using the openID? Sorry I don't know how to fix it. Just a work-around suggestion.

Here are two traffic tips that work well for me:

1. Comment on Ezine Article within your site's niche. Ezine has a high page rank and lots of traffic daily, so just by commenting on articles related to your site will help you bring in lots of traffic.
2. Submit every new blog post to social bookmarking sites such as digg, stumble upon, reddit, mister wong, etc... There is a free social bookmarking tool at http://www.socialmarking.com/ which allows you to post new comments to all major bookmarking sites at one time. You will have to create an account for each site first, but after you do that, your life will become a whole lot easier :)

Wow this is great info! I am still having problems getting traffic to my store at www.poshbabystore.com my site is a year old now I have done everything I can think of except this advice you give here about Social networks I use Facebook but its still not enough. Some of my competitors get like several hits a day way more than I do and their sites are only maybe about 8 months older than mine. Wish I knew what they were doing to get that traffic! Thanks for the help and advice its very helpful!
