Let's talk about safe blogging.
Hello fellow bloggers!
I want to ask all of your thoughts and tips on how you blog safely. Specfically I am talking about:
1. Using your real name or a putting up a picture of yourself. I know that people like to know the "real" blogger behid the blog. But I wonder how safe it is to have real information out there. I can see if blogging is you job and you want your name out there but if it is just a hobby I am wondering how safe that is. Also if you have a "real" job and you don't want people to know that you have a blog.
2. Putting pics of your kids. I see why people would but I wonder again how safe that is. Especially if you use real names. If you are anonymous on your blog then maybe I can see putting up pics.
3. Any other identifing factors.
The thing is you really do not know everyone that is looking at your blog. Of course you build relationships with some but there are many that you have no idea are even looking at you blog. And we all know there are many crazy people out there.
I am sure there are other things I am forgetting. But those are the two big safety points that stick out most in my mind.
I am curious on what others thoughts are on the topic of Blogging Safely.

I should probably worry about safety more than I do. I do have pictures of my kids and me. I try extremely hard never to use their real names or mention what school they go to or the name of employers for anyone in my family. Some bloggers know my real name because I have developed a relationship with them, but it's not posted. I think if someone wants to find you, they can. I really try not to worrry about it, but maybe I should.

I blog anonymously, and am coy about where we live (altho anyone who really wanted to could figure it out - I talk about IRL friends and link to their blogs, and they name our hometown) and where I used to work (SAHM now) but it's not so much so blog readers can't find us, but so that real life people can't find the blog, unless I want them too.
When I started blogging, I was looking for work, and didn't want potential employers - or later, parents of kids at the tutoring center that a managed, or people looking for the political organizations that I worked with - to stumble upon the blog.
I post lots and lots of photos of my daughter (it's a daily feature, actually). My theory on photos is that plenty of people see us walking around town and they would have a much better chance of finding us if they wanted to do us harm (we're right there! within reach!) than some random person on the internet would!
