I think that having a cell phone depends on how old you are and how responsible you can be. There is no way that could even think about giving my five year old daughter a cell phone of her own. Why? What friends would she be calling? It's a distraction for them in my opinion. Now, if my daughter was a teenager and I knew she was doing what she was supposed to do even without a phone, I would give her one. Kids are too spoiled nowadays...let them work for things that they want. It worked fine for me...it will work fine for my daughter.
