My blog is almost 3 months old and I want it to be useful

I've had a wonderful time working on my blog especially since it's about a subject that I love and am very passionate about, but I wonder if I am should be getting more traffic than I am currently getting.  None of my friends have blogs so I can't ask them for advice.  I started a giveaway today and I've had about 7 entries so far.  Is there something I should be doing differently?  I think there are, but I have no idea what they would  be.  Are there changes I need to make to the design?  I want it to be useful, but if no one is looking at it, then how useful can it be?

Thank you for any advice!!

Hi Chris,

I am following you now :)

I think one of the reasons that you have little traffic is your subject appeals to a small audience. I love the idea but if you talk about other subjects too maybe putting them in your banner or tags will help direct more people to your blog. My blog is on a narrow subject too, eco-friendly living, but I add in cooking tips and item reviews which bring more people to my blog. I am just starting out too but I wanted to help :)

Hi Chris and Anya, I am now following you both now. Maybe if you participated in a blog hop or link exchange could drive more people to your site. I have done a couple over the last few weeks and gotten more traffic from those.

Hi Chris,

Are you on Twitter? If you are, share a link to your Twitter page. Then start following people on Twitter. Add your blog feed to Twitter so people know about your posts. Same goes for Facebook. Comment on other blogs and connect with other bloggers. Most people like to help out new bloggers, so ask away. Everyone starts out slowly, so don't get discouraged!

Brain Foggles

Great advice! My blog's main focus is autism. However, I throw in an occasional rant, poem or quote that others can relate too. On another note...right now I am having a difficult time just getting my fb badge to link to my profile. So I guess like everything else if we play with it enough and ask for help, eventually we will get it right:)

Hi Chris:

I understand your feelings. I started blogging before Xmas and I was fortunate to have a girlfriend who is a professional blogger for over 5 years. Blogging is dynamic and the beauty of it is that you can use that space to do whatever you want. It could be videos, photography what have you. In my blog, I use it as an avenue to discuss whatever I feel is of interest. I would add some Youtube videos, give some opinions on hot news topics, observe special days etc. Be yourself. You can do this! Use Twitter, Facebook and interact with as many persons in the blogging networks (MBC, Mom Blog Network etc.) I am going to follow you! You got a supporter in me!

Hi Chris,

I found that Blog Hops are helpful in getting more traffic and followers.

I have written about increasing blog traffic on one of my blogs: http://momibloggertips.blogspot.com

Hope that helps:)
