Out trial sytem isn't about justice for the victims - thank heaven

There is so much OUTRAGE over the Casey Anthony not guilty verdict. People are furious that the jury acquitted her. One restaurant owner in Florida has gone as far as banning members of the jury from his restaurant. I wrote a blog about this because there seems to be a huge misunderstanding about the U.S. trial system and the way it is designed to work. It's not about justice for the victim - it's about protecting the rights of the accused and I'm glad. It's well thought out and carefully guarded so that an innocent person isn't wrongly imprisoned. Read it - it's worth knowing about.

If you want to be angry, be mad that the State of Florida brought the case to trial, spending nearly 1,000,000 of tax payer money to do so, without enough tangible evidence for the jury to convict based on the charges against the accused. As much as we may all think that Casey had something to do with Caylee's death, she can't be convicted on suspicion.

I agree that the justice system should protect the rights of the accused but there have been many convictions that were made on way less circumstantial evidence than what they presented. The biggest one: duct tape around the face. Exactly why would a child who "drowned" in the family pool have duct tape on her face. Were they playing a game of "kidnapped victim" when she fell in?  And what about other things they could have convicted her for? Like how can you not know where your child is for 31 days and not say anything to anyone? Isn't that considered child abuse or endangerment? Or the fact that the supposed baby sitter didn't even know who Casey was. The evidence was more than adequate; the jury was just weak and now a murderer who's planning to get "reconstructive" surgery and a different hair color so people can't recognize her is on the loose and probably will get pregnant again. I guess if another child suffers Caley's fate in a few years and a red red that eerily resembles Casey is standing trial for it, maybe THEN the jury will have the guts to do the right thing. Or maybe they will again put HER rights above her child's life.
