Is there still a ton of value in a Google page rank?  If so, how long did it take you to get a rank?  What do you recommend to help improve ranking?

To be honest, no one knows their actual page rank. The green bar most use in the Google tool bar is tool bar page rank and really doesn't mean much, it's just a vanity tool.  Google doesn't share a sites actual page rank.

BUT there are many ways to improve your position in Google.  You can do guest blogging, write articles and submit to directories, use social media like Facebook and Twitter to get your info out there and get links to and from your content.  The most important thing you can do is optimize your content. Your goal is to give people what they are looking for so a few simple steps will help increase your visibility in Google.  Obviously you need to write for your audience BUT you can still optimize for the search engines at the same time.

Hope this helps!

I have to tell you, I have been doing this since 2008 and Google PR goes up and down. I had a PR 4, went to 1 to 0 back to 3 and it's 0 again. It has nothing to do with how much traffic you get. The problem with PR is that brands and PR people don't understand this and they measure bloggers on it. It is also something we have no control over. I have very popular blogs and get lots of visitors each day but still have 0 PR on all of my blogs. My blogs are all optimized for search engine traffic and I know how to write properly. Basically, I have done everything right and still no PR.

Just try to remind the brands and PR reps that PR is not important. Google even said so in an article, I can't find it now.

I agree with most of what's been said so far. My own Page Rank changes so sporadically I've given up on caring about it, except when a company asks me specifically for my Google page ranking prior to working together.

Google PR is way over-rated and shouldn't be taken so seriously by brands. It's more about the content quality and the audience that your blog attracts that will make it valuable (or not) to consumer companies trying to reach your readers. Google PR (page rank) can't be the only thing brands judge blogs on, especially because the way these ranks are calculated is kept top secret by Google. PR reps would be wise to consider other analytic resources such as Alexa as well as look at the big picture of each blog's essence.  Only then, will brands have all the data they need to judge individual blogs before deciding whether or not to work with us.
