Problem changing layout on blogger

Help! I am new to blogging an I am kind of clueless about some of the technical aspects. I am on Blogger and I currently have one of their layouts. I have been trying to change it to something more interesting that I don't see on lost of other blogs. I have tried using several diffent sites with pre-made layouts, but I get an error message everytime that says:

Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: Content is not allowed in prolog.

What are they talking about???

Hi Abby -
I am on blogger too (at least until I earn enough to get off of it!). I don't know enough to address your specific question, but I am running a free template instead of one of the blogger ones (here is my site for an example). I downloaded it from Our Blogger Templates which not only has a great selection of free blogger templates, but clear directions on how to go about downloading ect. If I can figure it out, I'm guessing you can! HTH!

I use the site thecutestblogontheblock.com for scrapbook type layouts. You can check out my blog for an example. The site will give you step by step directions to add the template to your blog. Good Luck!
