It's been a LONG time since I did a discussion! Tonight I'm looking for a lil insight into the world of preschoolers and napping. My son is 3. He still naps. He NEEDS to nap. Heck, I need him to nap! lol...but when he does, he won't get to sleep at night until 10pm or so! If he doesn't nap, he's dragging at around 5:30 and if i don't keep him busy he's bound to fall asleep...and then I AM DOOMED. Soooo, my question is when do you know that naps are done with?

My daughter turned four 3 months ago, and just dropped her nap. She was refusing to fall asleep at her usual bedtime (8:30pm) so I knew it was time. Now she has "quiet time" at around 2:30pm in her room, and will sometimes fall asleep (like once or twice a week) if she's really tired. Maybe you should make bedtime earlier? 7:30 or so? He'll probably wake up earlier as well, but that might not make a difference.
thanks for the advice Mariana...if he doesn't nap i do make bedtime earlier, and also do the "quiet time" too...it's when he does nap that bedtime is impossible before 10pm. I'm guessing I will just be able to tell when naptime should end...it just seems like he still needs one...but bedtime is ridiculous when he gets one! i totally just repeated myself didn't I? lol!!

thanks again!
NEVER! I'm 45 and I still take one everyday. :)
My daughter napped until she was 5 and never had an issue with sleeping at night. My son stopped at 3. I soooo needed him to nap, but we worked out quiet time. He had to stay in his room for 30 minutes of quiet time. Sometimes he would fall asleep and other times he would just play for an hour and get some down time - for me too.

I am so absolutely nuts about having my kids in bed no later than 8 pm that I didn't want to mess that up with a nap.

If he really is done with naps, the 5:30 tiredness will pass, I think. GOOD LUCK! :)
thank you all so much for the advice...and even humor! We are still working on this nap dilemma...seems so silly but yet so important at the same time! lol!

Have a wonderful weekend! And keep the comments/advice coming!

Why Reaching the Age of Five in Developing Countries is Critical to Survival

Every year over seven million children in developing countries die before the critical age of five. Research shows that once children reach the age of five they have an increased chance of surviving through adulthood, but there are several challenges they must overcome first. This April, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), along with key [...]
