it happened to me recently.

i had randomly followed whoever was following me on twitter.
then i went back
and really went through list of people i was follwoing
i removed people who never commented on my blog and i frankly did not know who they were.
it led to a crazy reaction
i lost like 6 or 7 followers on tiwtter
and also
5 subscribers from my blog

i guess..it was not a brilliant move from my side...

pretty dumb actually..lol..:)

but atleast now i know who reads my blogs and who am i following on tiwtter..

also as a rule i suscribe to everyone who ever comments on my blog

i have folders on my reader
'new commenters'
'old commenters'
'with comment luv plugin'

i go and comment to people but if they stop visiting my blog
after 7 to 8 visitsto their blog , i put them in old commenter folder
i still check on them randomly
sometimes they come back..sometimes not

i never ignore people on 'new commenter' list..and whenever i am free in the week..i drop by

'coment luv pulg in' folder i just created last week..
i plan to comment there to get some backlinks..

I think its sometimes managing time. If I follow a blog and it's not a good fit for me, I will unsubscribe without guilt. I usually do a "clean-up" like every three months or so. This goes for blogs, newsgroups, yahoogroups anything like that!

I think it's sometimes more of a housekeeping thing. It could also be they don't remember why they were following you.

The only reason I would un-follow someone is if they stopped posting for a long time or their content has changed to something that wasn't in my interest.

Honestly, I would un- follow someone if their content didn't interest me. Sometimes I follow someone to get to know them and their blog so that I don't forget that I liked them in the first place. I visit so many blogs, at times I forget to go back and visit. So, I follow the ones I really like. If after a while I realize I'm just not connecting. I usually drop them. It's not that I don't like the person, just that I'm not that into what they're writing about or they're not active.

I lose a follower every now and then. I have no idea why! :) I think it's mostly people stop following me because I don't follow them back?

I normally follow back people who follow me, but I want people to read and follow my blog because they WANT to and because they LIKE it not JUST so I will follow them back. So, if people unfollow me that is their choice and I'm fine with it. :) THey are missing out on all my great giveaways and the great community of moms we have here!

I would love to increase my readership as well. I am finding it a bit difficult. I do like coming on to the site and reading other blogs.  I have found some great blogs. I normally keep track of the blogs that I join and try to comment on them at least once every other week until I just never hear from them.  I love having tons of blogs to read and respond too.
