What's the deal about blog directories?
've been reading lately that I need to register my blog with blog directories. Ok... I understand I may need to do that to get more traffic, but how do I know which are good and which are best for my blog? And do they really help? Any tips on this question, would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen a lot of advice to list with directories too, but so far haven't really seen a payoff. I usually find the blogs I read from word of mouth (via other people's posts or blogrolls) I have never used a directory to find a blog to read...so maybe this is why. I would love to hear about others' experience with this as well.
