I'm currently using a template from btemplates.com but would really like to create something custom. One of my main goals is to create a blog design around a custom header which really depicts the theme of my blog.

I do have some "trial by fire" graphic design ability but the only software I have is MS Publisher.

I'm debating trying to create something myself or finding someone else to do it (but can't afford a lot.)

The other consideration is that I own my URL (http://www.beamingbalance.com) so maybe I just go the traditional web design route and link to Blogger. (Right now the URL redirects to blogspot.com)

Totally confused and wishing I was just a little more tech savvy!

The reason I don't charge is because sometimes I take a long time to get it done so I think it would be rude to charge.
I checked this site out and can not tell but are these templates only for Blogger blogs or can any of these be used with Wordpress? I have a Wordpress Blog and have been searching for free themes but none seem to suit me. I want to put my own header in not use some graphice that someone else has already done. I want to be able to change colors, font size, font color, font placement even possibly, I want to be able to add widgets if I want, have it ad ready but not necessarily use it right away, and I want a fluid width with sidebars that can be placed left or right. Can you give me a recommendation of where to find a tut to do this myself? I am not real code savvy but I have some HTML tuts and can work my way through I am sure. I just can't afford to pay someone to make me a theme. Thx for any help...
Hi Charlene! I just finished a review on a new blog design site "Affordable Designs for You" and they did a custom design for my blog @Crazy & Loved-->Single Mommy of 3 Under 5 Just look under PR/Giveaways & it's the bottom post.
I did my own with Photoshop and then played around with the Layout HTML to change different things about it.
I am sure you've redone your blog by now, but if not, I highly recommend Five J's or Restored 316 Designs, and DRC Designs.
I designed both of my blogs myself and I design other peoples too!!

Indiechick Designs
I also designed both of my blogs myself and my voting topsites. I have self-taught myself over the years, and am planning to go back to school (at age 46 LOL) to get my design certification. I have a graphic design forum and do offer blog layouts at a low-cost, but mostly concentrate on skins for free forums, photo signatures, etc.

I do some blog design (I'm learning anyways) and am working on redesigning my blog right now, but I suggest http://www.fabulouskcreative.com/ her designs are gorgeous, and not like everyone elses!
I designed mine using Photoshop. Publisher is a desktop publishing program (i.e. for print) so it won't be as easy to design for web (for example: probably can't measure in pixels since it's a print app). I don't know much about Publisher (I use Adobe InDesign for print) though. It's pretty affordable to have someone design something for you and from the other posts, it seems like there are plenty of people who could do it!
I made mine! I bough a program called artisteer and it enable me to make templates for blogger and Wordpress. I always wanted to be creative and tweeked every template I had but did not have the software or HUGE CSS knowledge so this makes it easy! It was about 50.00 for the program
I just redesigned my blog. I have her button on my site. I LOVE it. It is so much more organized. :-)

my blog
I just did my own. I have considerable knowledge in photoshop but not with vector images. So I winged it, and hopefully it looks nice :-)
