With the financial crisis and climate crisis creating food crisis, something less talked about is the affect of these on women, particularly women in developing and under-priviliged nations.

This is thought was sparked for me, by a really interesting article I read on the World Food Programme's website entitled "Women Shoulder the heaviest burden in Global Food Crisis": http://www.wfp.org/stories/women-shoulder-heaviest-burden-global-fo...

What are you thoughts on this?

Just read the article. It makes my heart sick, I don't know how else to say it.

No matter a woman's economic station or the country she comes from, it seems that women around the world - whether by choice or by circumstance - have to be 'Super Woman'. And especially in third world countries, when it's not a matter of living 'paycheck to paycheck', but meal to meal, I cannot imagine the incredible amount of stress it must put on these women to provide for their families. To forgo food so your child can eat? I'm sure that's not even a question for most.

I hope that the program they set up helps these girls/women and brings more awareness. Thanks for sharing the article. Very informative read.
Hi Jennifer, yip! Many people seem to feel that the need for activism on the part of women is not needed anymore.

It's frustrating, particularly when I consider the women in these developing nations who are being left so far behind! Some of the photos of these women make my heart cry, their eyes look like they have only ever known worry...
