Finding time to write

Hi! I thought I'd throw a question out there because it's something
I'm really struggling with: When do you find time to write? I'm a
stay-at-home mom so you'd think I'd be able to find time but it's very
difficult. I have tried to write during nap times but that has been
harder this summer with everyone home. I've tried at night when the
kids are in bed but that's the only time that I get alone with my
husband. When do you write?

Well, I know its hard for me because the internet is right there telling me to check my email, my facebook, my twitter, and everything else.
I found this program calle CreaWriter - and what it does is take over your screen with a pretty picture, and lovely soothing music and you just write. You write and write and write. And it really does help! No distractions. I do not remember the website, but Im sure if you Google CreaWriter you will come up with it... There is a free version which I have, but you can also upgrade to a paid version and have more variety (picture music and features)...

Hi Alysia - Funny you mention the struggle to find time to write. It's so true that staying home does NOT mean having time -- or at least not being able to find it. In fact, that very notion inspired me to write my novel, Veronica's Nap (serialized on this blog: http:www.//veronicas-nap.com) about a young mother and aspiring artist living in the south of France who's stuck in the habit of procrastinating and indulging in naps while a nanny watches her two-year-old twins. Sure, her particular dilemma is pretty over-the-top, but over the course of the book she is forced to examine all the different sides of it, in full depth, and ultimately she discovers what she needs to do to break out of the rut.

You might enjoy checking it out -- especially since there's a second, connected blog on the site where I blog about all the various related issues! And the relevant writing and publishing industry issues, too. The blog just launched on September 13, so there's lots more to come!

As for where I find time to write, well, when my kids were younger I didn't have to work, so I wrote when they napped. Then I started working part-time, and very guiltily enrolled my younger son in daycare full time. By then my older son was in school. When I wasn't working, I was writing. Now I work full time and am asking the same question you are: when is there time to write?!? But every year is a new adventure as I adapt to my family's changing needs.
