Hi,

I have a very special story about my life. Mainly about me adoption and reunion, but also because of everything I have overcome over the years.

I would really like to share but I have no experience besides trying to write a blog.

Can any of you give me some advice on writing a biography?

You can take a look at my blog and base your advice upon that. I can take negative comments, if they are truthful.

But you don't have to visit it, you can just give me some help here if you would like!

Hope to get some help and while I'm waiting , I thank you in advance. ^^

MakerDaughter, just write it all down in first person past tense  Tell it from your heart.  Keep it simple and easy to read. I suggest you make a list of the main events you want to write about, then set them in order.  Begin at the beginning and work through them until you reach the last one.  Adoption and all it's ramifications, highs, lows, and the stuff in between, is a riveting topic.  But FOCUS on what is important when you do your first draft.  Later, when you go over it, you can add the little human extras that make all the difference.  Showing love, humor, and the overcoming of great obstacles is what makes any story, real or imagined, worth reading.

MakersDaughter, Margot about said it all. Remember, aside from writing about your life which can be cathartic, you're writing for an audience, so it needs to be interesting to them also.

And, if you're writing about your own life, it's an autobiography.

YOu can also do an online search on the topic.

Hi Maker's Daughter,

I read some of the articles on your blog - it will make a great story - it is full of real emotion. You just can't fake that kind of stuff. My mother is adopted and we spent years trying to trace her parents. We found them, but her birth mother was very reluctant to spill the details of her affair with a young man just before D-Day. For that reason, I fictionalized the story in 'American Smile' which helped me a lot. I loved writing it. I hope you enjoy writing your story too. My advice would be to write everything down in chronological order, in plain simple language, and to include your own emotional reactions as you found all the pieces of the puzzle. Best of luck,

It is very difficult to write your own story because you do not know just how interesting it will be to other people.  I suggest first write down what you think the three most interesting parts of your story are and share them with someone you don't know.  Don't tell them it's your life--tell them someone was sharing them with you and wanted to write a book and wanted to know if it was interesting enough.  Do that will several people and then you can see how interesting your story is in relation to perfect strangers.
