C.J Poindexter, good for you, mate. I am so happy for you. Writing down life's "difficult stuff" is often a great way to lick it into a manageable size. However, I still advise putting aside that particular story for a while. When you come back to it you will have a more clear perspective.

Naomi, I actually started Houston Parents Magazine...October was its first issue! Thanks for asking! I've wanted to come visit Dallas since we moved to Houston in 2007. Carla, I agree with Debbie, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators is a wonderful place to join if you want to write for children. Go to as many of their writing conferences as you can. You will network with other writers, and get to meet and mingle with editors, agents, and published writers.

Another great place is the online list, Children's Writers and Illustrators.. I joined them years ago, when they were very new, and I was new to writing. Several wonderfully talented writers took me under their wing and mentored me. I owe those ladies so much. Today the list has over 3,000 members world wide, and members still help, encourage, and support newcomers to writing, as well as themselves. Many private crit groups have also been formed by the members. Their collective writing and publishing knowledge is awesome!

Welcome, Carla. I write for children also, and it's a fun and exciting place to be. You may want to join the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, which is an excellent organization.

I just joined another writing group, but I think this is where I actually belong...I'm hoping (dreaming, trying desperately) to write (and have published) some books for children. I have had some articles published and done some other freelance work, but I really want to contribute to the children's book market. I haven't blogged much about writing--it's kind of been my secret hobby that I don't usually announce until I know someone well! :) Maybe I should change that! I'm enjoying reading blogs from this group and getting to know some of you through your writing about writing.
