Thanks for the Halloween History Mayra! I also blogged about Halloween culture shock.
And thank you for the tips, Margot! Branding the name "Kimberly Moore" is much harder, when you were a female born in the US in the mid sixties and share the name with most of the population. :)

Halloween is not only a colourful night of fun, frights, sweets and costumes. It is a full-blown industry, with more than $14 billion spent each year on costumes, decorations, party supplies, candy and other paraphernalia.

How did it all get started?

Read about it on my blog, Mayra's Secret Bookcase.

Happy Halloween! :-)

You are so right Jillian. "Branding" you name, so that whenever people see it in print, they think, "YES! That's that the author of Rattlesnake Jam," or whatever. And being an active member - and i stress ACTIVE, of FaceBook, Twitter, and similar sites, gets your name out there ASAP. Having a fun and informative Blog is also a must + a Website that features everything you have to offer. Your Blog is a kind of STOP PRESS vehicle for promoting on a weekly basis, whatever the mainstay of your Website offers. Create a simple signature that you add to everything you write here, on e-mails, and for FaceBook etc. You need people to see your name and what you offer them.

It can be a lot of work, and it takes time to make a dint in people's consciousness. I read somewhere that buyers need to see your name and product at least seven times before it registers. I am still working on this one!!

Jillian- Congratulations on your success! I'd love to hear any tips you have on Twitter. I'm on FB and Twitter, but somehow I can't wrap my head around the ways I can really use it. Following you.

Hello Everyone,

First and foremost, I wanted to apologize for being neglect on following through on some of your requests. You see ever since Kindergarten began, I have been focusing on getting known in my community through my blog, Aspen Real Life, and have been overwhelmed by my work.

As it turns out, hard work is beginning to pay off and local companies are calling to hire me for blog content and to be their social network person through Twitter and Facebook.

I am telling you all of this because I am now figuring out how to write a proposal to charge for my services, which could be very useful for all of you.

To start, do you all Twitter and do you have a Facebook account? These accounts are instrumental for building your platform as a writer. Please come follow me over on Twitter @jillylivi and Facebook so I can follow you back.

Sweet and moving post today by my friend Laura, who moved her family (with 3 small kids!) to Thailand. Don't miss the video at the end--I was there that day, and moved to tears.
