Hi, Stefanie,

I do book reviews, and while I have every intent of completing a review of a particular book, if that book is poorly written, I will email the author explaining I cannot do the review.

Unfortunately, I had to do this recently and the author was very disappointed, while I feel awful, as a reviewer my responsibility is to the reader. I cannot give a good review to a book that is lacking in almost every area of good writing.

Not following through with an explanation is kinder than writing a bad review.

I always advise authors to take the necessary steps to create a quality and polished book before publishing it. That means learning the craft of writing, belonging to a critique group, and hiring an editor to do a final edit.

Have you ever sent your book out for review and the book reviewer didn't keep up their end of the bargain? Check out these posts Why book reviews are important for authors and When book reviewers don't review your book - how to follow up!

Wonderful book review for Taconi and Claude - Double Trouble: midgrade adventure set in the Australian outback.

EXCERPT:  Full of beautifully written passages and wit, Margot Finke has crafted a story that will keep the reader engaged and turning the pages.  I sure was.  Taconi and Claude has earned it's place on our book shelf.

Jullian: I love this idea!  I am a freelance writer and have been published in various local magazines/papers regarding children's food allergies/nutrition/recipes.  I started blogging as a way to explore a different way of writing while I work on my other projects which include 2 children's books (one has been edited 3 times for the same editor but alas was not taken) and a chick lit book.  I am also a member of SCBWI.  Thanks for this opportunity.

Feel free to visit my blog...it's fairly new.  www.lifeisgoodlickthebowl.blogspot.com
