If I have learned nothing else, I have learned to not be taken down by others criticisms and expectations of me. This is not to say that you should not listen to your mother's concerns but if your book is in the hands of somebody who is interested than try to release yourself from the worry and keep a positive outlook.

Your childrens book seems like an incredibly special project and should not become a vice between you and your mother. It seems to me that if you remain true to your mother, eventually it will turn into something that the two of you can be proud of together.

I agree with Peryl, you never know where this book may take you.

Congratulations Lori!

And thank you Beth - you are a sweetheart and I love your blog, and am excited to check out your website.

Richele - so sorry you are having this experience - you seem so kind, and don't deserve the trauma. I'm proud of you for having come so far with the story - it means there is another one in you with fewer emotional complications.

Thanks everyone for being so open with their achievements and frustrations - it truly is inspiring. You are just a stellar group of writing women!!

Richele - sorry to hear you are having those issues with that book. It has to be a little heart wrenching for you.

Know you have an ear if you need it!

Hi all-

I wanted to share with you my website,, where I have samples of the published work I have done for regional magazine and papers. Since my blog is quite light-hearted and sometimes silly, I wanted to show you another side of my writing. I thank you for taking the time to take a look at it as well as my blog. Best, Beth

Thanks Jillian- I don't know how I miss these things sometimes.

Richele - Hang in there. It's a tough situation for sure. Good luck!

Peryl - I really like your posts. So familiar and entertaining. I look forward to continuing to follow.

Congratulations, Lori! So happy you are living a dream!

I've been so busy writing unit studies. I know that's not exactly books...but I am taking a break from writing my book. I submitted a manuscript for a children's book that is being looked at now. It's really a story my mother used to tell. I wrote it in tribute to her...I gave her credit..however she feels I did not credit her enough. It's a long story. At any rate, I am actually hoping the whole thing falls through. I am very disillusioned. I am considering just telling the editor not to read it. This has been hard so I am backing off for a bit. My mom is great...she is not being a jerk. I just underestimated how emotionally attached she was to her story. I thought I was doing something nice...she took it as me taking over..and running with her idea. An idea she never wrote for 30 years and actually told me to wrote..but regrets it now. I think it sounded good at the time but her emotional attachement and the prospect of editing and changing is not her cup of tea. I don't even want to deal with it.

Okay, I am rambling. I was thinking of sharing the whole sorted story because I need real advice. I will do that when I have a minute tonight or tomorrow.

Hi Jillian -

Thanks for the comment on my post. Do you have a place directly on your blog to comment? I know you will love having a dog. My reservation has always been knowing that I would be the only one doing the work. Since my husband really doesn't want a dog, I wouldn't feel right asking him to help out and my girlies are well intentioned but not quite up to the task. Anyway, enjoy your new furry friend when she arrives. Such an exciting time. Beth

Congratulations Lori! How exciting that you are on the promotional campaign for your book. I will try and listen tonight.

Meagan, I couldn't relate more to your post on control. Sometimes, I just want to not care about the rules but if I slip for a second than it is all over.

Swati - I woke up in the middle of the night thinking of you and smiled because what woke me was the thought that your writing seems to have become much more descriptive since the first post that I read. Is that true?

Anyway, keep up the good writing everyone and try to enjoy your spring "break".
