Today, Nov 1st, is a day when many of us with children on the autism spectrum are speaking out in response to a charity calling for social media silence (in solidarity with those with autism who can't communicate).

As writers, I think we all know the power of our words. Today I'm choosing not to be silent. Come read my post at http://trydefyinggravity.wordpress.com/2010/10/31/voices-carry/ and click on some of the names in the comments to read their amazing posts as well.

Nice post, Kimberly! I left a comment. I can relate with your story.

Thanks for the Halloween History Mayra! I also blogged about Halloween culture shock.
And thank you for the tips, Margot! Branding the name "Kimberly Moore" is much harder, when you were a female born in the US in the mid sixties and share the name with most of the population. :)

Halloween is not only a colourful night of fun, frights, sweets and costumes. It is a full-blown industry, with more than $14 billion spent each year on costumes, decorations, party supplies, candy and other paraphernalia.

How did it all get started?

Read about it on my blog, Mayra's Secret Bookcase.

Happy Halloween! :-)

You are so right Jillian. "Branding" you name, so that whenever people see it in print, they think, "YES! That's that the author of Rattlesnake Jam," or whatever. And being an active member - and i stress ACTIVE, of FaceBook, Twitter, and similar sites, gets your name out there ASAP. Having a fun and informative Blog is also a must + a Website that features everything you have to offer. Your Blog is a kind of STOP PRESS vehicle for promoting on a weekly basis, whatever the mainstay of your Website offers. Create a simple signature that you add to everything you write here, on e-mails, and for FaceBook etc. You need people to see your name and what you offer them.

It can be a lot of work, and it takes time to make a dint in people's consciousness. I read somewhere that buyers need to see your name and product at least seven times before it registers. I am still working on this one!!
