and get more followers to ALL of your sites ;)

Definitely follow other review blogger so you have ideas of what companies are willing to work with bloggers. BookSneeze (I think this is the Thomas Nelson site mentioned by Jennifer below) is a good place to start since they don't care to much about how many followers you have. Their books are mostly of the spiritual/christian nature if I remember correctly.
Also, as far as the page rank question I recommend adding the alexa toolbar or Alexa firefox addon to your site. The more of us that have it the better our sites will rank.
Writing companies with a short email that includes your stats (rss followers, twitter followers, and Facebook fans) is very useful. I always include who I am and why I would make a good reviewer for them (mom, wife, teacher etc.)
Feel free to email me directly if you have questions. I have done a ton of giveaways and reviews. It is a lot of work and very time consuming but well worth it when I offer my readers fun giveaways.

Richelle, is that a group on here or a website?

Thanks Shelley and Ethel. ;)

Don't take it personally if you get turned down. It doesn't mean there is something wrong with your blog. Some companies don't do blog reviews...some have too many requests..and some may only want certain stats. Even if some think your blog isn't a good fit..that isn't an insult. Just keep it up. Sign up at the The Product Review Place...they have a group where companies make pitches to the bloggers. I got about 3 reviews that way. When I respond to those I just tell them I came from the Product Review Place and that's all they need.

Stacie hit the nail on the head. Perseverance pays off. You can't take turn downs personally. You just move on and keep trying.

Wow! Everyone is giving such good advice! My blog is two weeks old and I have put up a few minor reviews about things around my house. I also contacted smaller companies and asked them about their products and I've already had three places respond! I say it never hurts to try. And Richelle, you do rock! So do you Shelley, I love your site. I'm already a follower! I want to be just like you two when I grow up in the review world...LOL
