The pulse of our home (with two completely different kids. One on the spectrum, one isn't.) My boys are sensitive. When you're an 8th grader with special needs you tend to be a target "out there". So this is how we live "in here" in our home, to give them strength and courage and a without-a-doubt sense of who they are: http://www.amymusings.com/2009/11/20/i-write-love-letters-and-save-...

We just posted our SNAP Awards for 2009. These are our Special Needs Adaptable Product Awards. When we started the toyportfolio.com (nearly 20 years ago) my mother and I were so upset that toys marketed to families with special needs kids were really ridiculously overpriced. So we started then to create a list of toys that either needed no adaptation or could be easily adapted. There is no reason why kids with special needs can't play with the same toys that their siblings and neighbors play with. The info is on our independent consumer site, www.toyportfolio.com.

Yesterday, I got a call from school. My son had been targeted and bullied. This isn't the first time, probably not the last -- all because he's different.

Anyone else dealing with this? I'm still reeling.

If any of your children have to occasionally spend time in the hospital I'd love to hear how you deal with your children left at home. I'm thinking about putting together a little blog-post series about it.

I was surprised at the variey of special needs diagnoses you all listed. At my angency we do therapy and nursing for children with so many of the same diasgnoses. It is so wondeful to know moms are finding support. Nice to meet you all!!!

Hello All,

Because I find myself wallowing in all the bad stuff that goes along with having special needs kids, I just instituted Thankful Thursday on my blog. I plan to list all the good stuff at least once a week, so I can gain some balance.

If anyone else would like to comment with there own positives, I'd love it. We've been going through such a rough go of it lately, it would be downright inspirational. Thanks!
