You make good points Angel. I think a lot depends on where you live, plus your socio-economic niche.  Women fifty and over need to think carefully before they leap at a chance of motherhood.  Will they have the energy and health to keep up with a teenager?  Who knows what is in store for us in our sixties?

As for those who think some forms of baby making are not natural, due to religious or other ideas: if God made us, he also gave us the brains that were used to discover all these wonderful new scientific advances.  So the advances and new techniques that now save lives, and bring new lives into the world, must be a part of his plan.  Right?

If a career woman has the love,  money and means to look after a baby, then let her do it.  So many  babies are born to those who should never have the responsibility - crack heads, drunks, the mentally ill etc.  A child who is cared for by loving family, no matter the make up of that family, is a lucky kid!!

Sorry, I wasn't at my most articulate with the last post, but you understand the fundamentals of what I'm trying to communicate! :-(

Margot, I think times are changing, but were not there yet when it comes to acceptance for midlife moms. While "40" may now be acceptable, 45 is not quite so and there's a lot of stigma associated forms of fertility that are not considered "natural", including reproductive technologies. Career women are still labeled as "selfish" for "delaying" motherhood. The medical system labels them as "advance maternal age" and "high risk". Older mothers and women who are trying to become mothers do continue to face social discrimination. Try this exercise: what would public reaction be to a man announcing he was about to become a father at 50, versus a woman who says the same? Answer: The man would be given a pat on the back and a cigar. The woman would be labeled as selfish and too old to be a mom.

Welcome Lisa from InSeason Mom Cynthia! I love the story/concept behind 3GB!

As the mother of a 9 yr old, I could "totally" relate to Z's gossip:) All of you have done a great blogging job!

Cynthia, these days I think moms over forty ARE accepted. Women today are stabilizing their careers before marrying and having children.  This means later pregnancy's  for many of them.  Even established single women are having babies after 40 - and not too many frowns.  The times have changed, as more women climb the professional ladders to success.  I think many husbands also also do more to help out their working wives.  The evolution of the family structure has shifted, to accommodate women in the workforce in ever increasing numbers.

H!  I'm a newby here, but not so new to the 40 something crowd. Pss, my exact age is a secret! I started a blog with my sister, Sue, and daughter, Zaharah.  It all seemed simple but, there is a lot to learn about the blogosphere, mainly how to get followers.  I have friends and family looking and giving me the thumbs up.  I'm wondering what's the blog with you?  Join up, send a reply, or start a discussion group of your own!  Some one give this 40 something year old misguided chick, who is clearly out of her league, some direction.
