Cynthia, yes, Ruthie is a riot!!  It deals with a big change in her life, and how the change changes Ruthie - and not for the better!!  There is a parent teacher guide with it, and he helpful Q and A helps parents and kids discuss big changes and how to deal with them so kids can cope better.

The last two lines of the first verse read:

Her parents scolded, begged and coaxed, but Ruthie paid no mind,

Her moods grew big and ugly – like some Hippo’s fat behind!
