I met a woman a few weeks ago who had a dramatic birthing experience. This is her first child and the birth was not the way she wanted- natural with no medical intervention. Instead, she had a…Continue

Hi mamas!

I had my son on July 5, 2009 in a freestanding birth center. It was such a great experience and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Labor started at around 6am, I stayed home until I went to get checked at 1:30pm. I thought for sure I was going to get sent home, but I was 5cm! I went to my room (with a nice tub and queen sized bed) and walked around then eventually got in the water. Labor was really easy until I had her break my water at 6:45pm, I was 8cm at that point. Contractions didn't seem to stop at that point and the tub wasn't helping too much anymore. I was having back labor and it hurt a bit. I finally got on the birth stool and started pushing, an hour and a half after I started pushing my son was born at 10:52pm.
He's the most perfect baby ever! If I have another one I want to have a homebirth

Hello everyone,

Adventures of a Somewhat Crunchy Mama just did a series of guest blogs about birth options. Since I have 7 children delivered through everything from an emergency cesarean with my first to 2 homebirths she asked me to write the wrap-up post.

I'd be thrilled to get feedback or questions.

My next New York City Moms blog post is up and running!

It’s called Natural Birth, Duggar Style. Take a look!

This should generate some interesting comments (or heated discussion?). What do you think, do you feel — like me — that more women could achieve a natural birth if they had educated themselves more about how the hospital is set up to push you into c-sections and believed more strongly in their ability to give birth naturally (hey, I did it, and I am no superwoman)?

Hi everyone! I'm new here and hope its okay that I joined. We have one child, that I delivered naturally, and don't plan to have anymore. But I am very passionate about natural childbirth. If any moms new to the world of natural birthing would like to chat you can ask me anything! I gave birth to our daughter on 9-23-08 without my husband there, without a doctor and without any meds. It was just me, my mom (who's not a "natural birther" herself) and one very inexperienced nurse. I didn't use a doula, and honestly don't feel like I needed one, but as soon as my Lucy is in K5 I'm going to start trying to be one.

If you want to chat in private send me a message on here or to I look forward to getting to know you ladies!

Debbie~Have you used a doula? I hired one for both of my natural births and she was wonderful. She had a lot of information available as well. Congratulations on your little surprise!!

What a great group! I am a SAHM to six lovely children. After my fourth was born, I declared I was done having children, but God had other things in mind. When I was pregnant with my 5th, I started doing some research on NCB. I had had increasing complications with the drugs in the epidurals and my fourth birth scared me. And so I hired a doula and had my 5th baby naturally. I then went on to have my 6th the same way. I don't know if we'll have any more children, but I plan to never go back to the epidural!
