Trash the Toxins Contest

Mom Bloggers Club has teamed up with The Healthy Home Company to give you a chance to win up to $1,000 in cash and prizes! Committed to ridding homes of the products and chemicals that are harming families, the Healthy Home company has launched their Toxic Truth™ Campaign, designed to help people decipher the dangers found in the products they use every day.

TAKE THE TOXIC TEST™

As a nation, we believe that personal care, skin care, household, cosmetic and other industries have regulations that are responsible for providing us with products that are “safe.” But, the reality is that there are more than 80,000 chemicals in use in the U.S., and many are unregulated. As an example, the cosmetics industry alone (which is self-regulated) uses over 1,000 chemicals in cosmetics sold in the U.S. that are banned in Europe.

There are toxic chemicals hiding in the products you use every day on yourself and your children.

DID YOU KNOW…

  • It only takes 26 seconds for the chemicals from the products you use in your home to enter the bloodstream through your skin.
  • There over 80,000 chemicals in use in the US alone, thousands of which are banned overseas.
  • Our children are at risk. Babies are born with 200 chemicals coursing through their veins. Studies have found more than 287 chemicals linked to issues like birth defects, developmental delays, toxicity and even cancer.
  • Manufacturers of the cleaning products and laundry detergents you use every day to clean your home (unlike food, beverage, cosmetic and other personal care products) are not required by federal law to list their ingredients.

The Toxic Test has taken the guesswork out of exposing these chemicals, by providing you with an overview of the top Toxic Ten product categories found in the home (including toothpaste, soap and sanitizer, and kitchen cleaner) and outlining some of the dangerous chemicals they harbor.

Many household brands contain ingredients that can cause an array of health risks. The Toxic Test provides information about some of the health concerns and effects associated with those ingredients, and where to find safer replacements.

I got an F.  I use very little conventional cleaning products, but the ones I do aren't great.  I'm going to do a complete overhaul ASAP!

Comment by Tracie Rosales on January 9, 2015 at 2:02pm

Yikes!  An F!  Deodorant and my hair products are not helping and hand sanitizer!  Need to look into this!  As we have allergies at my house.

Comment by Hana Haatainen Caye on January 9, 2015 at 12:22pm

I got an A. I don't use ANY of the products on this list. :-)

Comment by Tricia Isham on January 9, 2015 at 11:07am

I got an F, too. I've been taking baby steps already, though, after finding out some of my excema troubles are due to products I've been using. This is something I'm thinking of trying!!!

Comment by Jeanette (MamaBanana) on January 9, 2015 at 9:52am

Ouch! an F, and I thought I was doing a good job! I use castile soap and natural products where I can, but I guess items like deodorant are still lucking in our cupboards. I'm thrilled to share this with my readers and spread the word about the challenge! I have 3 small babies and would love to eliminate as many chemicals as possible from our home! I write Mama Banana's Adventures and this will definitely go into my green living section.

I got an A, but I have already made the move to a non-tonix house. It's easy once you know what products to pick :)
