My name is Angela. First and foremost, I am a mother to five wonderful children. We have four boys and one girl, ages 18, 16, 14, and 7 year old twins.

We are transplanted Texans, living in Highland Park, Illinois courtesy of the U.S. Navy. Being married to the military has its perks and its disadvantages, but for the most we tend to focus on the upside of military living.

My children are my life, simply stated. I do everything I can to enstill in my children the values, beliefs, and morality my parents handed down to me, sometimes feeling as though what I'm doing isn't affecting them in any way. Then I witness, out of the corner of my eye, one of them doing something kind for someone, lending a helping hand, supplying a shoulder to cry on. It is then that I realize that they truly understand and I'm thankful.

My children each have their own special needs, ranging from ADHD and Autism to rare disorders and post-kidney tranplant.

Writing is my passion! I utilize this skill as a means to inspire and counsel others, express my opinions, and put a voice to the thoughts and questions that clutter my mind on a daily basis. If I don't write them down, sort them out, and make sense out of them, my head will explode! Alright that is stretching the truth a bit, but at least that's how it feels.

Satirical humor, particularly sarcasm, have and always will be my coping mechanism. My kids tell me I have this twisted ability to make even the most serious of situations funny. What can I say? It's just the wicked way my mind works to deal with every day stress, and definitely not meant to offend.
What is your blogging philosophy?
AKA: Mom's Great Escape. I am a freelance writer and avid blogger who enjoys putting life into written words. Just like the old woman who lives in a shoe, I have so many children . . . well, you know the rest. ;o)

When family life gets too chaotic, I make the great escape to my Fortress of Solitude. I'm a freelance writer who utilizes this passion as therapy for myself and inspiration for others.

I am a military (Navy) wife of four boys, each with special needs. We have been to the depths of Hell and back, and now use our experiences to help others going through trials in their lives.

Writing is my passion! I utilize this skill as a means to inspire and counsel others, express my opinions, and put a voice to the thoughts and questions that clutter my mind on a daily basis.

It's just the wicked way my mind works to deal with every day stress, and definitely not meant to offend.

We're not strangers to adversity, yet have found a way to deal with it all by simply using humor. Life happens, plain and simple! If you focus on the negative, you'll always be lost. If you live to be happy, despite the trials you have endured, you become a better person and the world becomes a better place because you exist.

My Motto:

"When I take my last breath, my heart stops, and my soul is gently embraced by the merciful hands of God, I will leave this Earth knowing I will forever live on through the eyes of my children." ~ Angela McCoy
I have been blogging since...
I figured out one could pour their emotions out online, and not be considered a loon for doing so.

My First True Love: A Letter to my Teenage Son

Posted on May 29, 2009 at 10:25am 0 Comments

Dedicated to my oldest son, Brandon

We met face-to-face for the first time what seems like yesterday, but years have passed, and I have known you for a lifetime. You have led me on a remarkable journey through this forest of existence, and have taught me to cherish every detail. You have guided my feet toward a less traveled pathway, and on it, you have opened my eyes to a world full of treasures all others have taken for granted, cast aside or completely ignored.

Silence

He lies motionless in an unfamiliar place

He tries to view his world

Only to be met with nothingness

Faded mutterings of peculiar articulations

Surround his being

Taunting his curiosity

Focus . . .

His recognition fails, once more

He knows someone is there

Somewhere in the darkness

Who?

The shuffling of footsteps

On a rigid…

The Nerve! Fighting back against rude people everywhere!

Posted on May 29, 2009 at 12:10am 0 Comments

The rudeness of people never ceases to amaze me. There you are . . . just going about your day-to-day life, when someone does something or says something just downright rude. The nerve! When this happens to me, I'm usually so stunned by their audacity that I cannot think of a reply until moments, even days later when I realize, after careful consideration of how this person affected my life, invaded my personal space, and (sometimes) even triggered a tear or two.

I was brought up to… Continue

The ABCs of Me

Posted on May 28, 2009 at 11:56pm 0 Comments

A - Age: 37 going on dead

B - Bed size: not big enough, but apparently suited for a queen. I'm assuming that queen didn't have a cover-hogging, freight train-sounding husband, dogs who only sleep on Mom's side of the bed, or two small kids running into her room in the middle of the night because

is out to get them!

C - Chore you hate: How about I just list all the ones I don't hate? That would be a whole lot… Continue
