Yeah you can install Wordpress on your own domain or in a subdirectory folder also. I have Wordpress installed twice on my domain. My root had Wordpress here:
http://www.embracinghome.com/
And my subdirectory blog also has wordpress. I installed it twice because each blog is about something different. The subdirectory blog is about blogging:
http://www.embracinghome.com/blog/
So I you want to have a store in the main root and a blog in a subdirectory (or vice versa) that is totally possible.
