Share a little something about yourself with other moms.
I am a pediatrician with a private practice in Oviedo, FL. I want kids to be healthy and not have to come see me. One of my passions is childhood obesity which led Heather Quillen and I to form YoMedics. YoMedics is a company committed to children's health through prevention. We focus on teaching families healthy lifestyle changes that they can use the rest of their lives. The key elements we discuss include educating children why they need to be healthy, the nutritional importance of food, how exercise is good for our bodies and why having a positive attitude is the foundation of everything we do.
I have 2 children and a wonderful husband who are very supportive and sometimes get tired of me preaching "stuff" to them. At the end of the day though they get it!

Safe and unsafe plastics are a hot topic currently. Certain plastics can release chemicals that young children who are still developing can absorb. These chemicals can do harm in the long term. Look at the recycling number on the bottom of the bottle.
Plastics to Avoid:
These plastics contain some chemicals that can disrupt hormone levels or may be carcinogenic. Unfortunantly #7 is used in many baby bottles, five-gallon water jugs and many reusbale sports… Continue
Knee pain is common, especially when beginning the soccer season. Children frequently have pain over the front of the knee in sports with running, jumping and cutting. Taking time to adequately stretch the muscles in the front and back of the thigh will help prevent this condition. Knee pain lasting over three days should be evaluated by your child's physician.
This is a title of an article in the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper today. These statistics come from a study done in Atlanta, but have no fear, these statistics are more common across the country than not. A report done in 2007 and 2005 found that only 13% of U.S. high school students get a minimum of 3 servings of vegetables per day and only 32% get 2 servings of fruit. The sad thing is that the numbers did not increase from 2005 to 2007.
