I grew up in Seattle with artistic, bohemian parents who exposed me to all kinds of interesting people and ideas from an early age. I guess that’s where my own creative spirit comes from. I was always drawn to dance, to acting and to music. That was where I found my passion.

I have four children – a 17-year-old boy and three girls aged 9, 12 and 14. Since I’m only 33, it’s no doubt pretty obvious I got pregnant at a young age. The fact is, I wanted a baby from the time I was eight, so I’d actually been waiting half my life! And I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. My kids and I have grown up together. We’ve shared the lowest lows and the highest highs, and it’s all been incredible and beautiful.

I always worked -- from house cleaning to dental assisting to retail to massage therapy. I got so into my work I wound up running my own business almost every time. But starting out as a teen mom, finding success was definitely a challenge. There were child care issues, relationship dramas and the constant struggle to keep it all together. Ten years ago, my kids and I were actually homeless. But we pulled together as a group and tried to stay positive. We knew it was a temporary condition, so we all kept our spirit.

I looked at being poor as a challenge, not a sentence – I took it as an opportunity to get my life together and started on the path that eventually lead my and my kids to where we are today. Now we’re actually bicoastal, with homes in San Diego and South beach. I’ve created my own company – Elis’iance – that sprung from my other businesses in massage and retail.

Elis’iance is dedicated to the creative, artistic lifestyle. My business is far-reaching, spanning the spectrum from cutting-edge body treatments and massage to unique spa and social venues to my own lines of apparel to body products. It’s kind of a one-stop shop for people looking for the newest, coolest ways to chill, to express themselves, to feel good and get in touch with their bodies and their creativity.

Through it all I’ve tried to keep my basic values alive – I’ve tried to be generous and open and fair to everyone, to be positive and to try to bring something beautiful to the world. And since I believe in karma, I must have done something right. I have an amazing life, and I’m totally grateful for it.

Like to Meet

I like people who are creative, fun, positive, open minded, practical and eccentric. People who care about the world and each other and making the world better. Okay, maybe I won’t find all of that in one person! But those are all qualities I’m drawn to and admire and look for in my friends.

Paying it Forward

If you watch the news (which I don’t – too depressing!), you’ve probably heard that the country going through a crisis, that people are losing their houses, that a lot of people are suffering. Maybe you are one of them, or maybe you’re just scared of becoming one of them. But whatever your situation, I want to remind you not to lose your spirit. Not to become bitter. Remaining open to other people and sharing what you have – even if it isn’t much – is hugely rewarding. No matter how bad things… Continue

Every day, we’re bombarded with messages to buy more, spend more, have more if we want our lives to be worth living. Let’s face it, today more IS more, and it seems like everyone we know is after a better car, a bigger house and more “bling.” But paring the stuff down to a minimum and living a simpler, less materialistic life has amazing rewards.

Think about it. Do you really need to be driving a more expensive car, or to live in a bigger house, or to have the latest grown-up toys… Continue

Enjoy the moment...

We all know life can get pretty crazy sometimes. Everybody seems to be working harder and making less money and complaining more and enjoying life less – at least if you watch the news! For me, one thing that helps is taking time every day to enjoy simple luxuries. And no, I’m not talking about stuff that costs a lot of money or takes up a lot of time. I’m talking about simple pleasures anyone can enjoy if they just take a moment to remember and do it.

Here’s one that works for me.… Continue

Living Our Dreams

Every one of us has a dream. Maybe it’s to quit our office job and start a business. Maybe it’s to leave the rat race entirely and travel around the world. Whatever they might be, those dreams are there. But how many of us actually take the chances necessary to live our dreams? Believe it or not, I am living mine. And I’m here to tell you how I did it.

For me, the biggest step was letting go of expectations and learning to go with the flow. You can’t MAKE… Continue
