1. Big kid panties. Have your child pick them out. Make it seem like you’re buying gold! Perhaps wrap them up and hand them over as a gift; with balloons and confetti that fly everywhere, once opened. Have them modeled around the house, the neighborhood, Walmart (the kid would fit in). Point is, just make a BFD about them. They need to be truly excited about this article of clothing if you want to ditch the diapers. They won’t be this ecstatic about underwear again until they’re picking it out…See More

Holding My Breath as a Parent

To my girls:I first held my breath about you when I had my first prenatal appointment. As the midwife approached my belly with the Doppler, I couldn’t breathe. How would I react if I didn’t hear your heartbeat? As soon as I heard that beautiful sound, like horses galloping in my body, I let the air, and tears, out.I then held my breath as I went in for the anomaly scan, first at 20 weeks, then at 18. As I watched your minute features twitch and move, I let out a sigh of relief, knowing you were…See More

Breaking Away

“The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings.”It happens slowly. A little at a time but it’s noticeable. It’s bittersweet. You encourage it, but at the same time, it breaks your heart.Your new baby is 100% dependent on you. They need you for food. They need you to aid them to sleep. They need you to change their diapers. They need you. In a blink of the eye, this baby soon reaches up to hold her own bottle. You don’t know quite what to do with your…See More

The Best Moment

Besides ALL the pain and exhaustion that I went through with my first child-and no, my brain hasn't forgotten a second of it as I go further along with this pregnancy, there was one out of a few memorable moments, just after giving birth, that I'm looking forward to.As my daughter was seconds away from making her grand entrance, my midwife instructed me to reach down and grab her myself. At first I thought the epidural had gone straight to my head, not allowing anyone to make sense, but as she…See More

I'm About to be a Big Sister....Whatever That Means

Dear World: My life is about to change. Mommy was feeling sick for awhile and not able to write as much, so I decided to jump on here and take care of business myself.  One day Mommy looked at me and said, "Maura, there's a baby here in Mommy's stomach."  What the hell was she talking about!? I wanted to say, "That's weird. I have yogurt in mine!" but it came out as, "Mee de ta ta bell."  When she showed me a picture from her first ultrasound (whatever that is), and said, "There's your brother…See More

My Take on Parents That Meddle

**This is not about parents who give their opinion from time to time. That's normal. This is for those who don't know what boundaries are.**For the next 17 years, my role will be to guide Maura through life, as she learns how to be a contributing member to society. While she's young, I will not be her friend, but a mentor and good example, never feeling afraid to tell her "no". I will want her be independent but not afraid to ask for help. Confident but not arrogant. A hopeless romantic but…See More

I'm a SAHM to two, little girls, one born in Sept. 2012, and the other born in August 2014. I have a laid-back approach to parenting and find that a sense of humor helps in all situations! I love the outdoors, wine, working out, and doing anything that involves my family.
What is your blogging philosophy?
I love having an audience and always keep them in mind, but I truly write for myself. It is a wonderful way to release my thoughts and emotions-good and bad.
I have been blogging since...
