Last week I learned a valuable lesson about communication. It was during an emergency oral surgery that experienced this epiphany. There is nothing like being laid far back in a dental chair filled with laughing gas and feeling not quite yourself. What if I could tell you that you could be the most awesome mother you ever wanted to be and you could create the life you wanted. You might look at me and think I was crazy and say no you can't.
Do you remember what your mother used to tell you that you could do when you were grown up. I know when I was little my mother and everyone else in my family would tell me I could be anything I wanted to be. I know that I tell my children the same thing.

Thanks, Gen, for your kind words. It sounds like we do have a lot in common. Motherhood is an adventure, isn't it---and the best one I've ever been on. My writing partner and I started the blog as a way to connect with other moms, particularly ones with special needs kids. We wanted to help create a community so that moms os special needs kids would not feel so alone. We have found that, rather than creating the community, we are joining one that has been here all along. :)
