Manic Mom-Day

You're getting used to being blamed for everything.  Through tears, just last night, your four year old said, "Mommy!  You made me bite my own finger!"  Somehow... You know you're supposed to celebrate the independent spirit in your toddler, but when she's lying on the floor amid a pile of clean diapers after removing her own poop-filled diaper, attempting to wipe herself, the "I do it!" fight is about the last thing you want to deal with at that moment. Despite how it was when you were…See More

Flashback Monday? Just go with it.

Now that I got my little "I'm rubber and you're glue" hissy-fit out of my system, I can get on with more important (and more importantly) fun things. Like my 3-days late Flashback Friday. But hey, that's who I am. I'm late. At life. I was late to work this morning even. (Though that one really wasn't my fault. Have you ever been boxed in at the daycare drop-off line for 15 minutes? As inconsiderate and rude as it was of those slow-moving front parkers, I think handled it quite well. There was…See More

On Playing Favorites

If there's one thing I can say about my parents, in retrospect, it's that they were excellent about not playing favorites. (Actually there are lots of things I can say about them, and most of them are good, but I've got to narrow it down in the confines of this little blog.) My sister might contend that I didn't notice because I was the favorite, but I would argue that. Granted, there were only two of us, so it might have been easier to divvy up the love, but I don't think that was it. If a…See More

In my "humble" opinion

I have a habit of making quick judgments about people. I put too muchstock in first impressions. I tend to make assumptions based on whatmight be insignificant snapshots of a person's life from briefencounters with them. These are flaws and I'm working on them.Admitting it is the first step. Because these faults are part of who I am, I assume that everyone elsesuffers from the same afflictions and, consequently, spend too much timewondering what people must think about me. Am I arrogant…See More

Mom Things ~ Why am I still awake!?

And these, friends, are this week's Mom Things: When something of value goes missing in your house, one of the firstplaces you look is in the kitchen trash can (undoubtedly underneathcoffee grounds). Then in the toilet. If it's not in either of thoseplaces, you are not at all above dumping the outside trash can onto thedriveway and wading through the refuse. It's for events like that above that you consider purchasing a HazMatsuit. It would also come in handy for use both in public restrooms…See More

Because I got to ten 13 minutes before Wednesday. And by golly, I'mposting them. How to Know You're a Mom...You keep spare socks in your car (or even worse, in your purse) on theoff chance you'll end up at an indoor playground on a day when your kidsare wearing flip flops. You also, at any point, have carried around spare underwear for yourpotty training children - in your purse.Because you carry things like spare underwear and spare socks around inyour purse, it's no wonder you feel like and…See More

a mom by any other name would smell as happy...or tired...but she's still Mommy

And here are some tell tale signs that you are a mom... You've gone to a circus, watched a bunch of little men and women dobizarre things with their bodies, and at any point in time thought,"That's nothing. (Insert own kids name here) could totally do thattoo."You've passed some undeniable traits on to your offspring like the dentin your son's right ear (that came from you) or the cowlicks in all ofyour kid's hair (those came from your husband), and it makes you smileand amazes you that genes…See More

A Little Reminder

Posted on August 10, 2010 at 12:30pm 0 Comments

So often simple gifts present themselves in the most unsuspecting places.

This Sunday, after spending an hour teaching three and four year olds in Sunday School, Sam and I went upstairs to our own Sunday School class. As is usually the case, we spent a long time at the beginning chatting and catching up with each other about the past week. When we (finally) convened for the…
