Saying Goodbye

For the entire month of August, I just didn't let myself think about it beyond the facts. For the last two weeks, I just focused on anything else that took my mind off of it.Over the weekend I was busy getting things ready, so I was too busy to think about it.Tuesday came. Miss V came. It was a good visit, with laughing and smiling, and questions asked and answered, and Kit played with her, and smiled and made us laugh like usual. But it was different, and we felt it. I didn't let myself go…See More

Evaluations and an IEP

Well, we are finally done with all the evaluations and paper work getting ready for Kit's transition out of Early Steps and into the services of the school district. She will not be going to school, but when a child turns three, the school district takes over responsibility for further intervention. With a catch, of sorts. Early Intervention's aim is to provide assistance in any area that the child has an assessed need, and in any part of their daily routine from sleeping, to dressing, to…See More

What Does it Mean to be Brave?

What Does it Mean to be Brave?I don't listen to the radio very often. But I did the other day. So it was the first time I heard this song. I almost switched the station, but the first line caught me, then the rest took me by storm and left me in tears. But maybe not in the way one might think. It actually made me think of all the empty words that we  "let fall out", and how much damage has been done by these words. I am no exception. I have stabbed others with words myself. I have forgotten too…See More

Share a little something about yourself with other moms.
I love our big, busy, messy life! It drives me crazy but challenges me every day, and I thrive on challenge. I love coffee, making music, reading, sleeping in, and the quiet of the house after all my babies are sleeping. We do homeschool, exploring, and spend a lot of time with family and friends. We have a lot of hugs, a lot of patience, and a lot of unmatched socks. We are brave, brilliant, and most of my bunch are autistic. There is rarely a quiet moment in my house, but never a dull one. And I breathe in as much of it as I can everyday, because they just keep growing, just as they should, but I don't want to miss a moment!
What is your blogging philosophy?
As a mom, I want other families to relate, and to feel like they are not alone. As a writer, I want to convey real life with passion, honesty, dignity, and humor. As a mom of autistic individuals with sensory processing challenges, I want to answer questions that I couldn't find answers to when I was looking. I want to bring the subtleties to light so others can recognize them sooner. And I want to show how autism is so much more than stereotypes. If my writing helps even one person in any way, then it is worthwhile.
I have been blogging since...
