The days of living our lives are marked by how well we live and the number of experiences we have collected through the life. A lot of time the experience counts more than the age. There are different milestone birthday’s in the life that makes us revisit life in a certain…
Share a little something about yourself with other moms.
Before my son was born, I was a career girl, dedicated to the job. Once he came along, working 60 hours a week was no longer appealing so I stayed at home with him.
We found out almost a year ago now that he's got developmental delays. Most significantly, a speech and language delay. But not an autism diagnosis.
I felt alone. So I started a blog dedicated to moms everywhere, most especially moms like me who are navigating what I call “The Middle World,” the world of raising a child who is not typical, but also does not have an official diagnosis of autism or PPD-NOS. My son Tucker has a speech and language delay and a possible social emotional delay. Well, duh. If he can’t chatter with kids his age, he’s obviously going to be lacking a bit in his social circles.
When we first received Tucker’s diagnosis, I started to research (and by research, I mean Googling on my iPhone while eating) developmental delays, looking particularly for information from parents in similar situations. I wanted to know if fish oil worked, whether they had tried B12, and whether their kids run laps when they start to get sleepy. I found a lot of websites and mommy blogs written about parenting autistic children, Down’s Syndrome children and adopted children, but none that fit me, and our life just right. So here I am. Writing a mommy blog where I’ll share how we find humor and support while raising a three-year old boy with a speech and language delay. I hope to get some new ideas and perspectives from other parents who are also in “The Middle World.” Or any world, really.
What is your blogging philosophy?
Blog every day. Make it sentimental or make it funny. It doesn't always happen, but I try.
