Safety Tips to Prevent Your Dream Pool from Becoming a Nightmare

Whether it’s a cosy hot tub, a full-sized pool or something in between, having a private place to take a dip at home is one of life’s greatest luxuries. There is little that compares to shrugging off the day’s troubles with a few relaxing laps or a good book and the gentle massage of…

Share a little something about yourself with other moms.
I am a single mom (by choice) who adopted her daughter Alexandra, six years ago. Since 1996, I have lived in downtown Manhattan.
I was born in Japan to Japanese mother and black father. Because my father was in the Air Force, we moved between Asia and the United States until I was 10 where we settled in the Northern Virginia suburbs, outside Washington, D.C.

I am a graduate of Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) and Thunderbird, The Garvin School of International Management (Glendale, Arizona).
Because of my early childhood background, I have a love of travel and traveled throughout Japan, Southeast Asia and Europe.

Like so many thousands of people, I was laid off from a financial services company in December 2008 and took the opportunity to realize a passion for writing and started this blog to chronicle my life as African-American woman raising a child by choice on her own in New York City.
What is your blogging philosophy?
I like blogging about my hectic life but love providing my quirky take on pop cultural, business and political topics that peak my interest. I don't take my blogging too seriously but like offering a peak in to my life.
I have been blogging since...

Need Advice - Content Balance on Your Site - Your life vs Product Reviews/Giveaways

Posted on October 19, 2009 at 6:58am 0 Comments

Recently, I posted a product review and received several posts from my readers that they were either leaving or not happy that I was posting so many product reviews versus posts about my life. Thats why they were there to read about my life.

I admit that I did not start my site to get free products or get invited to events, it just evolved organically that I began getting invited to do these things.I admit that the events/products review did seem to be taking up more of my posts… Continue

Single Mom Recessionary Tips

Posted on July 7, 2009 at 7:25pm 0 Comments

Since I was laid off, I have had to pare down my expenses. Here is my list of achievements so far and yes, I have more to do.

Any cost saving tips are most welcome.

1. Created a budget and signed onto Mint.com- Mint.com is a site that you enter in all your banking/credit cards/assets/create a budget. It tracks all of it so at the minimum you can see how your doing versus your budget. Do I stick to the budget? No, but hey it's a start, right. Work with me,… Continue

Tweet Up Event with Suze Orman

Posted on June 23, 2009 at 5:16pm 2 Comments

Last Friday, I was invited to the first ever Tweet Up with Suze Orman, hosted by Avon.

Before providing details about the event, it has to be said that I felt like a Luddite or one of those grandparents who still doesn't have email. This was a tweet up event, right? So there I was, the only one without a computer or blackberry/IPhone to send in our twitter posts. All I had was a pad and pencil and my Motorola RAZR (remember when the RAZR was the coolest phone on the earth and cost… Continue

Hi there from The Girlz Korner in upstate New York where you'll find light, witty and rather entertaining articles on every topic imaginable from The Little Black Dress to Making Whoopie. So if you get a chance to kick back and exhale, if only for a brief moment ... come on over and see me some time.

Sarah

I have one 4-year-old daughter. She is full of life, happiness and extremely smart. She speaks almost as well as I do at this point! Her vocabulary is out of this world and she has a great sense of humor. She loves Tinkerbell, Peter Pan, Dora the explorer, soccer, dancing and can't ever get enough of playing with her cousins and friends.

Read more about Sarah.

Hi Linda. I also live in NYC. I checked out your blog and really liked it. Mine has a similar theme, I also write about parenting and pop culture. Great to find another lover of entertainment. Hopefully we'll get to meet sometime.

Hi Linda, I replied to your comment/list of blogs that you couldn't follow via Follow Me Club. I have RSS and email subscriptions that are pretty easy to spot or RSS buttons below each post and at the top of my homepage when you first get on my site. There should be no reason to only follow me on twitter. Thanks.
